Met Eireann have warned that thunderstorms and flooding could be on the cards this weekend.

While many of us were hoping that the sun might make a return this weekend, showers and overcast conditions have spread across much of the country.

Unfortunately, the scattered showers are set to stick around but temperatures will get higher.

Met Eireann have said that temperatures will hit as high as 18 degrees in the coming days.

However, it will also be a mix of showers and sunny spells.

Here's everything you need to know about the weather forecast for the coming days.

Sunday 26th May

Patchy rain will continue over the northern half of the country with sunny spells and scattered showers elsewhere. Rain will slowly clear northwards through the afternoon as showers become more widespread. Some showers will be heavy with the potential for thunderstorms and spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in light to moderate westerly or variable winds.

Clear spells with scattered showers on Sunday night, gradually easing through the night. Lowest temperatures 7 to 9 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.

Monday 27th May

Sunny spells and showers on Monday, with the showers becoming lighter and more isolated through the day. Highest temperatures 13 to 16 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Rain will arrive in the southwest later Monday evening or early Monday night extending countrywide overnight. Lowest temperatures 7 to 10 degrees in moderate southerly winds.

Tuesday 28th May

Rain will turn heavy at times on Tuesday morning. Sunny spells will develop later as the rain clears to showers. Highest temperatures 16 to 18 degrees in moderate southwest winds.

Wednesday 29th May

There'll be sunshine and showers on Wednesday. Highest temperatures 16 to 18 degrees, moderate westerly winds becoming moderate to fresh northwest.

Further outlook

The signal for the extended outlook is for continued unsettled conditions with rain or showers.
