Jack Catterall got his revenge on Josh Taylor by winning their much-anticipated rematch.

Catterall controversially lost on a split decision the last time to the two clashed in Glasgow in 2022 and he appeared determined to make things right, landing some brutal left hands on his opponent. There had been some bad blood between the two in the build-up and that seemed to show in the ring.

The Englishman won by a unanimous decision this time around with the three judges scoring it 117-111, 117-111, 116-113 in his favour. While there were no belts on the line, the result saw Catterall improve his record to 29-1, while Taylor slipped to 19-2.

Taylor was clearly unhappy with the scorecard, but the fiery words came from promoter Bob Arum, who snatched the microphone to voice his displeasure. “Those scorecards were a disgrace, an absolute disgrace. I thought Josh Taylor won the fight," he said.

“I will never let an American fighter come here with the British board scoring the fight.”

Catterall had been frustrated by the delays to the rematch, the most recent of which came in March when Taylor picked up an injury. "All the talking is done, we’ve had the build up and the fight is sold, obviously we don’t see eye to eye, and we’re both ready to make weight and fight now," he said pre-fight.

"It’s must-win and that’s what all my energy is focused on. I don’t want to talk about what is after this. I know you have a great division at 140lbs, there’s a lot of big fights to make and that’s an exciting prospect, but right now all I am thinking about is beating Josh. I believe I can take him out."
