Irish racer Alex Dunne had his hopes of a victory in the F3 Monaco Grand Prix cut short following a bizarre collision earlier today.

A six-car pile-up resulted in the 18-year-old’s car being wedged and stuck with competitor Christian Mansell’s vehicle.

It had been a disappointing weekend previously for Dunne who had saw red flags in practice and qualifying for the event and his luck didn’t get any better on Saturday afternoon.

After congestion in front of him, Dunne ended up slamming into the back of Mansell’s motor meaning neither would be able to continue with their car’s inseparable.

Nicola Tsolov went on to win the race, but the Offaly native will be hoping to bounce back when he takes part in Sunday’s feature race.

Dunne has impressed in the sport with a swift rise to F3 racing and is a part of the McLaren Driver Development Programme as he searches for a path to F1 racing.
